Our Team

Dr Lauren Macdonald

Lauren Macdonald is a psychedelic researcher, doctor and therapist at the Centre for Psychedelic Research, Imperial College London. Beyond the clinical setting, she works as a psychedelic retreat facilitator in The Netherlands and loves community-building, group work, and supporting people on their journey to reconnect with their essence. As a stage IV cancer survivor Lauren has first-hand experience of existential anxiety/spiritual distress and is passionate about psycho-spiritual modalities and the potential for psychedelic therapy to reduce suffering and support healing, especially in the fields of oncology and palliative care. Lauren holds degrees in Medicine and Psychology, and has undertaken further training in Integrative Medicine, Compassionate Inquiry, Yoga and Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy (MAPS).

Rosanna Ellis

Rosanna Ellis is a Hospice Nurse and Yoga Nidra teacher. She has an MSc in Palliative Care and is undertaking practitioner training in Systemic Family Constellations. Rosanna believes that we are long overdue a collective reframe of death and dying and that doing so would have incredible healing potential for all of us. Rosanna is passionate about helping anyone who is facing their mortality to feel less alone and would like to see end of life care that includes sensitivity, beauty, humour, ritual and ceremony made accessible for everyone. As someone who has worked within hospitals and hospices for over 10 years in various settings, Rosanna has also witnessed the impact of burn-out on colleagues and friends and would like to see those who dedicate their lives to caring for others be supported too.

  • Dr. Sharon Blackie

Dr. Sharon Blackie is an award-winning writer and internationally recognised teacher whose work sits at the interface of psychology, mythology and ecology. Her highly acclaimed books, courses, lectures and workshops are focused on the development of the mythic imagination, and on the relevance of myth, fairy tales and folk traditions to the personal, social and environmental problems we face today.

Sharon’s unique approach to working with the mythic imagination, fairy tales and folklore highlights the insights these traditions can offer us into authentic and meaningful ways of being which are founded on a grounding in the native wisdom traditions of the West, and above all on cultivating deep and enduring relationships to the places we inhabit.

We have launched Essence Medicine with a team and advisory board that is not as diverse as we would like it to be. We are working on addressing this and aim to increase the range of representation over coming months. We will also be seeking advice from Diversity and Inclusion consultants to ensure we remain true to our values.

Our Partners & Allies

We have partnered with TreeSisters to support our relationship with our living, animate and interconnected natural world, to which we belong. TreeSisters combines five of today’s big issues: gender, climate, consciousness, behaviour change and ecological restoration through massive tropical reforestation. They are unique in their grass roots approach to include and involve everyone, focussing on a wider cultural shift that embeds restoration into everything. Partnering with them aligns us with the mission to contribute to a future rooted in reverence for the sacredness of all life.
