Online training for healthcare professionals
Building the Bridge: The Foundations of Psycho-Spiritual Care
Dates: TBC
Are you a healthcare professional (eg. nurse, social worker, doctor, psychologist, counsellor, psychotherapist) interested in deepening your understanding of psycho-spiritual care?
Would you like to learn tools, practices and approaches that help support wellbeing at spiritual–existential levels?
Are you interested in learning how legally administered psychedelic-therapies can be utilised to reduce suffering, with a particular focus on palliative care?
Would you like to join a community of like-minded others to learn and evolve together?
About Building the Bridge
Whilst there are calls to increase training and education on psycho-spiritual care amongst healthcare professionals, means to support staff are limited and tend to be based on coping strategies, rather than processes such as meaning-making.
To address this gap, we have created a six week online training that draws upon our HOME Model to support the delivery of holistic, culturally sensitive, psycho-spiritual care.
We believe that all health professionals should have an understanding of psycho-spiritual care so as to ensure high standards of holistic care. We also recognise that it is only a matter of time before psychedelic-therapy is made legally available to certain patient groups. Therefore, we feel it is imperative that healthcare professionals begin to develop an understanding and reverence for these ancient medicinal tools.
Over the course of this training you will gain foundational competencies in trauma-informed care, psycho-spiritual care and psychedelic therapy. There is also the option to join an experiential training retreat in The Netherlands (see below for further details).
Above all, it is our intention that this training will support your own spiritual needs, enabling you to fill your own cup before serving others. Prior to COVID-19, healthcare workers were already experiencing mental health challenges and the pandemic has only further impacted the profession. We envision this training will help to reduce some of the compassion-fatigue and burnout experienced by many healthcare professionals working within the current system.

Building The Bridge was created for healthcare professionals and other allied workers interested in deepening understanding of psycho-spiritual care.
At Essence Medicine, we want our services to reach and appeal to as many people as possible. We therefore take a non-denominational approach when it comes to psycho-spiritual care. While we accept, respect and welcome people of all religions and faiths, and none, what we are focused on are the elements of psycho-spiritual care that we believe can be applicable to everyone.

Our HOME Model
Our HOME Model provides the framework for us to explore psycho-spiritual and existential themes together. Each week we explore a different theme focused on: Intention, Healing, Oneness, Meaning, Essence and Integration. The tools and practices that we weave through these themes are intended to soothe the nervous system, increase self-compassion, and gently make space for the full spectrum of human emotions. Exploring these themes in a safe, held space can also lead to new insights and understandings.
Our HOME Model draws upon a vast range of tools to help support healing states. Some of the methods used include: visualisation, yoga nidra (a very gentle and safe form of meditative relaxation), breath work, music, the power of group sharing, rituals and ceremonies.
